Is Our Air Fair?
This is the question of the Fair Air project.
We are engaging students in this project to monitor and compare the air quality at and in their schools. We are offering over 200 air quality monitors to Maryland schools where students can use them for their research into air quality, health, and environmental justice.
Drexel Pareja, a student at Oxon Hill High School in Prince George’s County Public Schools will be using the air monitors for his research on air quality.
Will they see similar air quality across Maryland, or will they find good air quality in some areas and poor air quality in others?
Will air quality be particularly bad during certain times or seasons?
Does additional filtering lower pollutants in schools?
How does outdoor air quality affect indoor air quality?
Does additional filtering lower pollutants in schools?
Do students see correlations between air quality and asthma related absences or hospital visits?
Are there correlations between air quality and life expectancy?
At what levels do PM 2.5, TVOC, Co2, Humidity, or Temperature affect our health the most?
Do different people have different tolerances or affects from bad air quality?
How can teachers and students use Tools for Schools and air quality monitors to improve the health of their classrooms?
